BURYATS OF MONGOLIA: “WE ARE BURYATS, BUT WE ARE DIFFERENT”
Sodnompilova M. M., Nanzatov B. Z.
Buryats of Mongolia represent the largest portion of the Buryat people abroad. The research on the Buryat diaspora is a topical issue and its relevance is based on a number of problems. One of them is the problem of self-determination and self-representation of Buryats in modern Mongolian society. Of special interest is the character of group networks between various Buryat communities and the degree of their influence. This article, based primarily on field research data gathered by the authors in various regions of Mongolia and its capital Ulaanbaatar from 2005 to 2010, examines these issues.
