IN SEARCH OF A GLOBAL INFORMATION SELF-REPRESENTATION OF MONGOLIA: PERSISTENT ELEMENTS OF THE IMAGE OF GENGHIS KHAN IN WESTERN MASS MEDIA OF THE EARLY 21ST CENTURY

The article reviews stereotypical elements of Genghis Khan’s image in printed and electronic Anglophone media in the 1990s – early 2000s. It analyzes article headlines and stylistic devices used for image creation, outlines and explains their meaning in the context of Mongolia’s search for efficient self-representation in the global infosphere. The influence of these images on the perception of Mongolian diasporas in the west is highlighted.
