METRIC BOOKS IN THE OLD-BELIEVERS ENVIRONMENT OF TRANSBAIKALIA

The article analyzes the difficulties of documenting and certifying acts of civil status, especially the issues of recording marriages of the Old Believers. The main part of the article is devoted to highlighting the problem of mandatory metric books records, which provoked one of the most serious crises both within the Old Believer movement and its relations with secular authorities and the Russian Orthodox Church. The form of metric books, features of their put-in are considered, the reasons for mass refusal among the Old Believer communities to use such accounting documents are formulated. Particular attention is paid to the characterization of legislation, which preserved the dominant position of official Orthodoxy and inequality, in comparison with it, of representatives of other faiths.
