The article is devoted to the Chinese Buddhist scholar-officials of Southern and Northern Dynasties era Cao Siwen and his work «“Refutation on the” Discourse on the mortality of the soul». The author put forward and grounded the dating of the investigated compositions. Basical features of the terminology used by the participants of the discussion are given.
