CONTEMPORARY STATE OF BUDDHISM IN MONGOLIA

The article analyzes contemporary religious situation in Mongolia. The place and role of the Buddhism in Mongolian society and its attitude towards other denominations – the Christianity, the Islam, and the Shamanism – are shown. Also, the article reveals new tendencies in religious development in the country, determined by the processes of globalization. The article reveals hardships, which the Buddhism suffers in modern Mongolia. The author’s conclusions are based on the results of social investigations, conducted by Mongolian researchers in 2000s.
