The article describes an outstanding Buryat historian I. A. Asalkhanov’s personal file kept in the archive of the Buryat scientific center SB RAS. The documents cover main steps of his career as a senior scientific researcher and deputy head of History, Archeology, Ethnography Department, Buryat Social Sciences Institute. It allows to enlarge an prominent scientist’s life history with new facts, besides reflecting processes taken place in the home historic science.
