CIVIL RELIGION: ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPT

Batomunkuev S. D.

The article presents the analysis of the concept of civil religion. Despite the relative novelty and some semantic ambiguity, it nevertheless has a fairly large heuristic potential in the study of the socio-cultural reality of both modern and historical societies. In particular, the practice of civil religion means the construction of national (civil) identity of people – citizens of any state. The very same practice of civil religion is possible due to the fact that society for an individual is a sacred phenomenon, and not just a habitat devoid of spiritual content. In the end, the main effect of the civil religion is that a person becomes a citizen of his country, the bearer of national identity, in the education and support of the Patriotic spirit.
