MUSEUMS IN THE CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE BAM URBAN SETTLEMENTS

Baikalov N. S.

The role of museums in the forming of cultural environment of the new industrial centers during the late socialism period is a little-studied page in Russian historiography. This problem was considered in the paper on the example of museums of the BAM urban settlements. There are used archival documents, data from the Soviet press and Internet resources. The main place in the local museums activities during the Soviet time was occupied by education and propaganda, which were connected with the transport construction specifics and the historical features of the BAM building project. In the post-Soviet period museums have retained their former specialization and continue to implement projects aimed primarily at preschoolers and pupils of general education schools. At the same time, they perform an important function in preserving and transmitting the cultural memory of BAM, organizing meetings with construction veterans, creative evenings of amateur poets, writers, artists and composers. The contemporary recreational vector of single-industry settlements development forces local museums to work on the implementation of projects to attract tourists.
