The author of this article considers the educational program of Naropa University, the largest Buddhist institution of higher education in North America and the only one of its kind, where the Eastern and Western intellectual traditions interact. The author comes to the conclusion that the main feature distinguishing this university from other academic institutions is a synthesis of the traditional American model of higher education and Buddhist contemplative methods.
