THE COLLECTION OF BUDDHIST PHOTOGRAPHS AT THE CENTER FOR ORIENTAL MANUSCRIPTS AND XYLOGRAPHS (IMBT SB RAS)

This article discusses visual images of Buryat Buddhists using a collection of photographs at the IMBT SB RAS. After determining that a historical and cultural description of the collection is necessary, it is stated that the collection was created as a sum of the expeditionary activities of the institute in the 50–70s of the last century and it is connected with the ritual complex “Khaymor-Gungurba” of the local Buddhists. The author establishes the connection between the local culture of visual images of Buddhists and the preservation of Buryat identity by preliminary analysis.
