The article is devoted to one of the types of historical sources – oral evidence – in the context of studying the history of the academic museum in Buryatia. Various options for determining the basic definition of “oral historyˮ are considered. The basis of the article was the presentation of the memoirs of T. A. Aseeva, who illuminated the initial stage of the formation of the exhibition on Indo-Tibetan medicine in Ulan-Ude – stories about the first expeditions, herbariums, trips, meetings. The continuity of the basic principles laid down in the late 1960s in the subsequent expositions of the Museum of the Buryat Scientific Center of the SB RAS is emphasized.
