The article represents retrospective analysis of influence of Lake Baikal on the economic development of Buryatia. The main economic sectors in Buryatia including the fishery and forest harvesting are examined. The procedures of conservation of Lake Baikal and recreation of fishery and forest resources are described. The necessity of balanced resolution in ecological, social and economic problems at the Baikal nature territory are revealed.
