LAND MANAGEMENT PROJECTS OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE IN EAST SIBERIA: EXPROPRIATION OF LAND FROM BURYATS

Nanzatov B. Z., Sodnompilova M. M.

Since the incorporation of Buryats into the Russian Empire land relationships became the critical problem in a dialogue of Buryats with the Russian state and relations with the settlers from Russia. Throughout their entire history in the Russian Empire, the Buryats had been claiming their land rights, opposing various land reforms and often fighting against the newcomers. However, the process of expropriation of Buryat lands was irreversible, and by the early twentieth century, it ended with the rural municipality reform that finally stripped Buryats of land and their previous status in the social estate structure of the Russian Empire.
