The article is a review of the funds of the State Archive of the Irkutsk region telling about history of formation and development of Buryat self-government institutions of the Baikal region. Using the “Guide to GAIO funds” published in 2017 as a source the author analyzes the stored documents revealing various sides of the history of the Buryat people of the 19^th – early 20^th century.
